same specs as the CloudBook, if you ignore the same errors that original specs of the CloudBook also had, the “2 x DDR2 Sockets” and the “1.3MP Camera”, which must be one slot and 0.3MP camera.
Its just the same device, only licensed to Zyrex.

  2. acs Says:

Not exactly same specs as CloudBook. Cloudbook has only 512MB memory with gOS Rocket operating system. Zyrex Ubud has 1GB memory with Windows OS.

  3. mahjongg Says:

Then it’s only the 1GB of memory, (and that does not mean much as 1GB is also an option on the ClouBook) as the Ubud has:

“Operating System Option: Windows Xp Pro, Windows Vista Business, Linux”

which are exactly the same options the CloudBook also has.

Windows XP, Everex has the drivers to install it.
Windows Vista, someone demonstated that it works on a CloudBook on cloudbooker.com
    Linux = gOS v2 Rocket

In my opinion we simply are talking about exactly the same device here, only rebranded “Ubud”, and Ubud has a slightly different marketing approach than Everex.

so my conclusion is: everex CloudBook = zyrex Ubud

  4. atticus Says:

Zyrex has probably updated their website. They have removed Windows Vista Business and Linux from OS option.

  5. joko Says:

i’m from jogja, indonesia. I’m already seen and touch the zyrex ubud in last computer expo. But, i don’t know why, i’m forget to try it. But in my opinion, zyrex ubud is the same device of everex and Packard Bell Easynote. At that expo, zyrex ubud price is Rp.4.999.000 or more than $500. In the same price I prefer to buy HP 520. Its far heavier, but i still young and can afford heavy stuff in my back :D

Come to Bali, it’s great place to vacation :D

  6. atticus Says:

I was hoping it will be priced at around Rp 4M. Do you see it for sale at stores? Anyway, I was in Sumatra, Indonesia last Christmas. I had a pretty good time at Bukittinggi and Lake Maninjau. Great scenery, great food and great people. :)

  7. prana Says:

I saw this yesterday at the 1st computer square (Ratu Plaza, 1st Floor) in Jakarta. The price is Rp 4,999,000. The OS is Windows Vista Starter Edition, this is the OS for developing countries which is very cheap but can only open three application windows at one time. I was told that there are no other OS options available.

  8. atticus Says:

Just wondering, is the OS in English or Bahasa Indonesia? Found some information on Windows Vista Starter Editions from Wikipedia:

“Much like Windows XP Starter Edition, this edition sells only in “emerging markets” such as Brazil, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines — mainly to offer a legal alternative to using unauthorized copies. Microsoft does not make it available in the United States, Canada, Europe, Israel, Australia or New Zealand (although users can install a trial-version from the 32-bit DVD).[4] Vista Starter has significant limitations, such as only allowing a user to launch three applications with a user-interface at once, not accepting incoming network-connections, and a physical-memory limit of 1 GB. It retails only as a 32-bit system.[5] It supports only AMD’s Athlon XP, Duron, Sempron and Geode processors, and Intel’s Celeron, Pentium III processors and certain models of Pentium 4. The usable portion of the hard disk has a limit of 250 GB. Starter Edition comes with some desktop-wallpaper not found in other versions of Vista”

Anybody with photos of Zyrex Ubud to share? I will be glad to host the photos.

  10. Victor Says:

yoohoo, i bought zyrex ubud yesterday at the local computer expo !

Well built and exactly same weight with my eee..920 gr

the track pad (zyrex call Mouse pad — no idea why?) need a little time to learn

with pre installed Vista Starter (even more basic than Home Basic & it’s English) is beautiful , i never with Vista before. Unfortunately , it only can open 3 “big apps” at the same time. well..that’s the trade for the OS sold at US$50 here.

Keyboard is nice, but the fan sound louder than eee, and weird coz sometimes it whirl according to my activity..?

  12. Bowo Says:

I am very disappointed to know the price of zyrex ubud.i thought it would be less then Rp 4.5M.with Rp 5M i prefer ECS V7 with the same processor,14in xga for less than Rp 4.1M. All i need to add are 1GB ddr2 sodimm for less than Rp200k, usb wifi g for Rp160k,
Win vista se for Rp450k. Or if mobility isn’t crusial a cheap self assembly pc is available starting from Rp2.5M already with pentiumD.

  13. luckylucky Says:

ah saya pegang enak kok . cuman gimana ya install vpn nya bca ke vista? jadi saya keep 22 nya aja beh dengan eee pc 701 lagi coparing neeh

  14. atticus Says:

Bowo, I was hoping it will be priced around RP$4M, or near the price range of Everex Cloudbook and Asus EeePC.

I think it is not fair to compare the ultra portable with normal-sized laptops and desktops. The market for such ultra portables is not as big and as a result, the economy of scale is not there. Smaller laptops have always been priced at a premium compared to their larger siblings. Just take a look at the mini laptops from Fujitsu and Sony.

Luckily for us, manufacturers have started to realize the demand for such budget ultra portables (thanks to Asus EeePC). An increase in demand brings about an increase in supply, I guess that is when prices will really start to fall. :)

  15. iip Says:

    to Victor
You bought both Zyrex ubud & Asus EEE, didn’t you? If someone want to buy, what will you recommend? Zyrex ubud or Asus EEE? Thanx alot

  16. atticus Says:

Just wondering, how much is Asus EEE (4G, 701) selling in Indonesia?

  17. iip Says:

Asus EEE 4G is around Rp 4.2 M. To anyone who use Zyrex Ubud: Are you satisfied with Zyrex Ubud performance?

  18. Suryo Says:

yesterdey i buy the sama type UMPC in Jakarta but it’s Wearness Quadra CX-7. the difference is :
    - price is Rp 350.000 more expensive than zyrex ubud (Zyrex ubud Rp 4.600.000 )
    - include windows vista home basic (zyrex ubud with that price use Linpus Linux)
    - HDD 60 GB (zyrex ubud with that price use HDD 30 GB)

does any one know if there’s any 3G modem card that can substitute the webcam card for this type of UMPC?

  24. vpn gateway Says:

Of course the VPN provider can see what you are doing if they want to. That’s why using free proxies or vpn’s is a bad idea. Free to you means they make their money going through your data and trying to figure out how to market that information. Even paid providers can be suspect but you have to at some point trust your provider to not look at your data. I’ve use surfbouncer, for quite some time and have a good feel for them. Others may be ok too but I haven’t tried them. The bottom line though is that some VPN company you are paying to provide you service has the least reason to look at your stuff and is certainly better than the censors in your country knowing what you are doing.
