Twinhead C8 - Attractive UMPC with 8″ Screen
by atticus ~ March 27, 2008
Sporting a pearl white casing, the ultra portable from Twinhead looks as attractive as the Apple iBook or Asus Eee PC. With an 8″ LCD screen, Twinhead C8 has a native resolution of 1024×600, certainly an advantage to those who find Cloudbook and Eee PC’s 800×480 resolutions too small to work with. Even though the Twinhead C8 comes with a larger 8″ LCD screen compared to the Eee PC 701 and CloudBook CE1200V, its resolution remains the same at 800×480.
But some might have concerns with regards to its choice of AMD Geode LX-800 as processor. While I understand that the AMD processor is not a speed demon, I believe it should be good enough for normal word processing, web surfing and video watching. Its high performance per watt probably means that we can expect good battery life out of the mini laptop.
Twinhead C8 is currently selling in Malaysia at around US$560 (RM$1799). It is expected to be released in Singapore soon. According to forum talk at VR-Zone, the Singapore pricing will be around US$507 (S$699). Interestingly, the S$699 unit will come with no operating system but Windows XP drivers would be provided. The unit also comes with a generous three-year warranty (1 year international and 2 years local). Since Twinhead (known as GammaTech in U.S) has sales offices around the world, we will probably get to see more reports of Twinhead C8 soon.

I bought C8 two weeks ago. It is a nice laptop but the resolution is NOT 1024×600! It is 800×480!
The reviewer for C8 mentioned 1024×600 and I actually thought so with looking at the resolution.
Too bad, I already bought it. But so far I like it. It is a bit slow though when running Win XP.

Hi Dave,
I’m not sure if it will be in Philippines.
Hi Sunny Boy,
Thanks for letting us know. I will update the post accordingly. Glad to hear that you like the Twinhead C8. Care to share its the battery life?

Hi atticus,
Sorry, have been away.
The battery is of average one. It lasted less than 2 hours fully charged, with moderate usage, some internet surfings. I have to buy another battery as spare, good that the service center here in Malaysia stocks it.
The bad sides of C8 are that it is a bit slow running on XP — start up time takes about 2 mins 40 s. It gets a bit hot too after about half hour. So you cannot place it on your lap for too long. The power adaptor is abit too bulky to carry around. I wish they could come out with smaller, portable, flat type.
The price might drop as more and more companies are churning out Ultras. But C8 is still a nice size — keyboard and all.
