Sungju TangoX Nano: Via Nanobook for the South Korea Market

by atticus ~ February 27, 2008

South Korea, famous for their high-tech industries and high internet penetration rate, is going to have their Via Nanobook UMD reference design based ultra portable. The UMPC is released by Korean vendor, Sungju Computer.

Named TangoX Nano, the tiny laptop comes with the usual 1.2GHz VIA CPU C7-M ULV processor, four-in-one card reader, Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, two UBS 2.0 ports and a DVI connector. What differentiates it from Everex Cloudbook CE1200V are the touch screen display, 1GB of DDR 2 memory, modular Skype/VoIP phone, Windows XP operating system and a choice of 40Gb or 80 Gb hard disk drive. If the specifications look familiar, you might be thinking of Belinea s.book 1. Register Hardware also reported the resemblance.

From what I can make out from Korean site Noteforum (through Google Translation), TangoX Nano will come in two models, TangoX Nano C7 and TangoX Nano E7. The difference is probably in the hard disk capacity. TangoX Nano is slated for release end February or early March. The mentioned Korean site also has some nice shots of the ultra portable and even has a video preview of it.

If you are trying to find out more information on the device, try to search for Sungjut TangoX Nano instead of Sungju TangoX Nano. For some reasons, Akihabara News, Register Hardware, Gizmodo and other sites are referring to the company as Sungjut instead of Sungju. Am I missing something?

You’re right about all the information you posted here.(I’m from South Korea)
I guess google translation is pretty reliable.
BTW, ‘Sungjut’ is probably just typo mistake.

    Hi Chromedome,

Glad to hear that the information posted is correct. :)
Do you know about this E8 model that is mentioned in the Noteforum.co.kr?

  3. Chromedome Says:

If you mean Kojinsha E8, I couldn’t find any comment or news in the Noteforum.co.kr.

Check this link out. (All korean though:))
He claimed that E8 and L500X are not that different except E8 is no bluetooth and smaller HD.
It will be sold around 530$ for limited time and probably goes up to $600 after that.

    CPU AMD Geode 500mhz
    7inch 1024×600 Swivel touch screen
    512MB RAM
    40GB HDD
    CF/SD/memory stick Reader.

You are right, ‘E8′ is mentioned in the same sentence as ‘gojinsya’. The article on noteforum.co.kr is probably talking about Kohjinsha E8 release date on 29 February.

About Kohjinsha, even if they removed the bluetooth and downgraded the HDD, I still find them a tad expensive. It is not that they are not value for money, it is just that they come with premium features like touch screen and Windows OS which not all users require.

    I couldn’t agree more:)

  6. Chromedome Says:

The cheapest Kojinsha E8 version($530) was announced having 256 MB ram.
I don’t feel “cheap” any more.

  7. atticus Says:

After upgrading to 512MB RAM, it is probably around $550. At least it is more affordable compared to previous Kohjinsha models. $150 extra for higher resolution swivel touch screen and Windows? I guess it does not sound that bad. Just not for me. :)
