Pioneer Dreambook Light IL1 and Dreambook Light CE26
by atticus ~ February 24, 2008
The ultra mobile portables market is getting crowded. Pioneer has released two new models for the Australia market, Dreambook Light IL1 and Dreambook Light CE26. The two mini laptops, especially Dreambook Light CE26, appear to be built around the Via Nanobook reference design.
While not as affordable as Everex Cloudbook or Asus EeePC, they do come in different specifications and offer a slew of customization options. For operating system alone, you have nine choices, from Ubuntu to Windows Vista Ultimate. You can even choose to multi boot up to four operating systems.
Dreambook Light IL1 (I’d Love 1)

Interesting name aside, the base model starts from AU$499 and does not come with Wifi. Pioneer’s description for Dreambook Light IL1 is:
Ready for Windows Vista with 40G HD. Asus EeePC’s killer (Asus won’t work with Vista).
Is it true that Asus EeePC cannot run Vista? I am sure I have seen a few guides on how to install Windows Vista in EeePC.

Dreambook Light CE26

Starting from AU$699, Dreambook Light CE26 comes with almost the same specifications as Everex Cloudbook. In fact, it resembles Everex Devbook more as it comes with a touch panel screen.
We see the usual Pioneer confidence in their product description:
Weighing under 0.97Kg and with a 7 inches wide touch screen, completely integrated portable PC with built-in handwriting capability. Much better than Asus Eee PC.

CE26 is not available on their website. Is there any chance that the company has changed the name to IL2?

The specifications of CE26 and IL2 are different. I have dropped Pioneer an email regarding the status of CE26. Hopefully, they will reply. From Pioneer’s site, it appears that they are planning for two new 8.9″ UMPCs. I’ll write about them on a separate post.

Joseph Livingstone, account manager of Pioneer Australia, informed me that they have sold out the CE26 last month. The new units would be arriving in July. Thumbs up to Pioneer Australia for the quick response!

I HAVE A PIONEER DREAMBOOK IL1. THEY ARE NO GOOD UNITS. AFTER 2 MONTHS OF USE THE KEYBOARD WENT BAD. I BOUGHT MINE IN THE PHILIPPINES AND THE DISTRIBUTOR SAYS NO WARRANTY ON THE KEYBOARD. I USE IT ABOUT 2 TIMES PER WEEK.
THAT TELLS ME A LOT ABOUT THIS COMPANY. I PAID PHP18,000 FOR THE UNIT & WAS HAPPY UNTIL THE NUMBERS QUIT WORKING.
HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM??????????????
