Picking at Everex Cloudbook CE1200V User Manual

by atticus ~ February 15, 2008

Reading Everex Cloudbook CE1200V user manual might answer many of our questions (is there a Caps Lock LED indicator?) and confirm many of our suspicions (no easy access to RAM and HDD, and no Bluetooth), but it also raises our eyebrows on a number of occasions.

1. TouchPad

Chapter 3.3 - Using the Touchpad Pointing Device (PG 44)
“Your CloudBook comes with a built-in Touchpad pointing device that is found on the center of the palm-rest surface.”

Everex might have a little problem with its geography. I do not think that the right corner above the keyboard is the center of the palm-rest surface.

2. RAM

Chapter 1.1 - Feature Highlight (PG 18)
“This CloudBook provides one memory slot for installing DDRII SDRAM 200-pin SODIMM modules up to 1GB using 512MB or 1024MB DDRII SDRAM modules..”

Chapter 4.1 - Everex CloudBook Multimedia (PG 52)
“Your Everex CloudBook is rich in multimedia features that make your computing fun, comfortable, exciting and easy.. Up to 4GB DDRII- SDRAM”

APPENDIX A - System Specification (PG 84)
“SYSTEM MEMORY… Two 200-pin memory slots”

I am confused with the inconsistencies but I will make a guess. It means that the chipset can support up to 4GB of DDRII SDRAM on two memory slots. However, Cloudbook CE1200V can only accept up to 1024MB DDRII SDRAM on the single memory slot it provides.

3. HDD

Chapter 6.2.1 INTERNAL HDD SUB-MENU (PG 44)
“IDE Channel 1 Master [FUJITSU MHV2080BH PL-(S1)]… Total Sector: 78126048… Maximum Capacity: 40008 MB”

I cannot really read the numbers but it does not seem to suggest 30GB. Is not FUJITSU MHV2080BH a 2.5 inch, SATA, 80GB HDD? Alright, I am being picky, Everex is just reusing an example from another laptop manual.

Pardon me. One can get a little cranky after searching the web for the elusive Cloudbook.. in vain. Do you have anything to add to the list? Just post a comment and I will add it in!
