Intel Shows Off Via Nanobook

by atticus ~ March 22, 2008

While presenting to investors the new product category Netbook, Intel unexpectedly showed off the following slide:

It is interesting that they have chosen a picture of an ultra portable that appears to be a Via Nanobook. You can even make out the VoIP handset module from the photo. Check out page 38 of the presentation slides.

I think they choosed the cover of the ComputerWorld@CeBIT in the slide due to the fact that the magazine covered the trend of UMPCs in that issue, to justify the spending in that segment. That the VIA Nanbook was on the cover was not so important, or even important as in “our competitors seems to be doing good it that market segment”. Hard to say, I didn’t attend the presentation.

I understand what you mean. But they could easily find another article with an Intel UMPC on it. After all, Asus EeePC has been grabbing the headlines for almost single-handedly creating the new product segment. One could probably argued that they wanted a recent article and didn’t care which UMPC was in the slide. Or maybe they just didn’t realize it is a Via Nanobook. Whatever it is, I just find it an interesting bit of news. Another reason for posting the entry was to announce that Mike Magee, co-founder of the Register and founder of the INQUIRER, has a new blog.
