by atticus ~ April 16, 2008

Another Via Nanobook has arrived in Australia, Philippines and Singapore. Named simply as the Astone UMPC, the ultra portable from Astone comes with touch screen display, modular VoIP handset (or webcam), 1Gb RAM and 30Gb HDD.

The mini laptop seems to come with different operating system in different countries. In Philippines, E-C Mix is selling it with “Open OS” and at a price of US$502 (P21,000). According to forum talk, the UMPC is priced at US$657 (S$888) in Singapore and it comes with Window Vista Home Premium. An online store in Australia is selling Astone UMPC at US$590 (A$628) but the choice of operating system is not specified.

  1. Chris Lees Says:

In Australia, it doesn’t come with an operating system. See the front page of my local computer store: http://www.mcgtech.com.au . They have it without any operating system at all.

It’s probably better that way. Someone tries to install Windows XP on it, fails because XP doesn’t have SATA support, and instead tries installing Linux.
